How to eliminate the old scent in furniture?

I got a dresser from someone which looks vintage and I like it a lot. It must be at least 20 years old. However, it has an old, unpleasant scent inside the drawers. How can I get rid of that?

  1. Go to your local hardware and purchase some cedar wood balls and put these in the drawers. If you dont like cedar, wipe the inside of the drawers down lightly with a citrus based furniture polish.
  2. Grab yourself a new newspaper! Crumple up the newspaper and fill the drawers with the crumple-balls. Leave there for a few days to a week, remove the newspaper and the small should be gone or reduced. If only reduced, do the process again. If that doesn't work, try setting in each drawer a dish with some vinegar in it. Leave for (again) a few days to a week. The vinegar will be gross smelling, but once that smell fades, it should take the smell of the years gone by with it.
  3. Take out the drawers and clean with plain water.then while they are still wet, spray some vinegar in them.Litely.Put a fan on to dry them well.If smell is still there, spray again,it will work.
