What is the best way to record and log inventory for an antiques business?

Also, I'm just starting out and would appreciate information and advice on what accounting software package would be the best. I will have very diverse inventory, with most items being one- or two-of-a-kind.

  1. Software... hands down Quick Books. Nothing else compares. I have used multiple versions of QB's for the past 10 yrs. But can't say if there is a picture option or not. Being antiques I am sure images would help inventory, making it easier. Quick Books can easily do your paperwork, cash register, payroll, bills, PnL's, taxes, etc, etc. But the actual inventory, since images...hmmm. Maybe Microsoft Publisher or such to embed images and text. Maybe a blog set on private so its not shared but only you have access. Then each piece has its own blog entry with images, price paid, date, info, etc. That way also the inventory is stored elsewhere if your computer goes down. Quick Books backs itself up as well. So least this would be protection. www.wordpress.com is bout the easiest blog out there.
  2. Other than the function of "record and log inventory for an antiques business", please define all the other requirements for your business. Answer provided by www.mytata.net
