How to furnish a modern house with antiques?
I have inherited a house built in the 60's and quite a lot of victorian and edwardian furniture. At the moment the house looks like an auction warehouse, all styles and types of wood mixed in a very unsightly mess. What can I do to make the best of house and furniture?

- sell the stuff you dont want at auction and buy the things you want the same way
- KEEP EVERYTHING VERY SIMPLE, PAINT THE WHOLE LOT A NEUTRAL COLOUR AND SELECT A PIECE OF ANTIQUE FURNITURE TO MAKE A FEATURE OF FOR EACH ROOM. SOUNDS WONDERFUL.
- keep rooms very nuetral and accent with antiques...accent the antiques with appropriate lighting...do not overdo it, make the antiques seem like art instead of old junk lying around...
- You can furnish any home style with any style of furniture you like as long as you know what you are doing. It sounds like you have too much furniture and need to carefully select those pieces that could accent your home and sell the rest. Mix the antique pieces with some contemporary cross over pieces and you can make it happen. Keep your home colors neutral and any wood moldings and accents simple but in the same stains.
- Rather than try to research styles colors and textures etc, why not research periods? Go to sites like the one listed here and eBay and simply search by Periods, you'll have ideas in no time! The most common periods your apt to come across at local auction, antique shop or flea markets would be Victorian, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Depression era, WWII (although this one is not technically a period you get the idea) Art Modern and Retro For more advice and antiques collectibles articles go to http://auctionwally.com
