how can i find out if any old furniture and pictures are worth anything?

i want to see if i can get an idea if the items i have are worth anyhing, any help i would be gratefull for thanks im in the uk.

1. try looking on eBay at similar stuff
2. You can always call an appraisal that deals with antiques or even ask to your insurance broker about knowing the value of your furniture.
3. Take them to an auction house - plenty of them about (try Yell.com for those in your area). They take commission on anything they sell so they want the best prices for your stuff. This virtually guarantees that they will give you an honest estimate of their value
4. Most antique dealers will give a valuation.If the items are too large they even visit your home. Don`t just take the first valuation, call several and get a rounded picture. Recently on Antiques Roadshow a table was valued at £30,000 , the owner had been quoted about £500- £600 by a local dealer. E Bay is a good guide, but the owner may be willing to take a lower price just to clear the item, so don`t take the price as the true value.
