- I had a huge package mailed by sea from Thailand and it arrived in great condition. I had it mailed from Bangkok at the local post office, I thought the service was great. For finding furniture I recommend Bangkok as they would have a large selection and Chiang Mai, there are many offerings in this city as well, esp. in terms of accents (mirrors, frames, etc.).
- In my opinion, Chiang Mai may be cheaper than BKK. So look at Chiang Mai first.
- For wholesale or retail? Retails> visit Sunday market Wholesale > visit Phra, Nan, Lanpang for wooden product Ayutthaya, Singhaburi, Prachinburi for Thai art antique. Generally visit and talk to people at sunday market, they're a shortcut.
- yes go changmai, lots of good wood furniture and Cheap
- Thailand the capital of the teakwood, you can find easy the funiture and house and import to unite states by shipping .... thailand the topical zone....you should come by yourself.... you will know unseen thailand
- the cost of shipping by ship is by size (cube feet) not weight, so cost is going to depend on a number of facts and could cost alot need to check that out also import tax on arrival and shipping from port to your home need to think of these things in advance. If you live near the port all the better.
- I did this (to Europe anyway) twice. The first time from Narai Phand, the large government owned souvenir shop opposite Central World. They have a furniture department on the top floor (if they did not change the floor since). They also have a limited antique collection. (But I wonder what you mean by 'antique' in Thailand.) The second time from a store (factory) outside Chiang Mai, called "Tusnaporn". It is the one where taxi- or tuk-tuk-drivers normally take you. They get a commission, but the shop is reliable nevertheless. You can bargain between 10 and 20%, I guess. In both cases I bought large pieces of furniture (see the page I refer to) and the cost of shipping (plus the yax in my country) was roughly the same as the price for the furniture. In other words, reckon with twice the price for the furniture. The items arrived at my home in excellent condition, without the smallest scratch, also inj both cases. So I believe it is safe to order furniture from firms that have to lose a name, but transport comes with a price. In both cases the transport (by ship) from Bangkok to Rotterdam took six weeks. Another word about 'antique'. Should you consider to buy large antique Buddha images, like they sell in River City Shopping Center in Bangkok, you should realize that no Temple ever will sell or give away its Buddha images. Hence the ones you buy in antique stores are - without exception - stolen from Temples in the past. So, if you like to own stolen goods, buy them. If you want this stealing to stop, don't buy them.
