How do I get rid of a musty, cigarette smell in old furniture?
We have received an old dresser that someone was going to throw away. It smells like an old musty house that someone has smoked in. Any home remedies on how to get rid of the smell?

- febreeze, or get a dog, it will make a mess everywhere and instead of smelling the dresser you can smell the puppys crap
- Apple cider vinegar mixed with water will remove most smells out of any fabric or plastic. You can make a mixture to hand scrub furniture.... add 1/4 c to laundry or 2 TB to dishwasher to remove mildew, smoke and other bad smells.
- u can chew a gum u can eat garlick or... STOP SMOKING!!!
- Fabreeze, it's usually safe on wood as long as you only spray the insides of the drawers. Also try putting activated charcoal in small tins inside the drawers. Let it sit in your garage or other similar storage before putting it in your house. Try a few cedar blocks in the drawers as well.
- If possible, take it outside for an afternoon and open the drawers and let it air out. I would also use some febreeze here and there. I don't think it will disappear right away. You can also use some fabric sheets set inside the drawers after you bring it back. It may not be all gone right away, but it is a start. :)
- use gumtree oil
- I'd leave it outside in a covered area for a week or so. Let fresh air do the job.
- If you have a garage, put it there to air out. Febreeze it, then put odor absorbing things in the drawers.
- YOU CAN USE THIS STUFF CALLED FABULOSO. JUST GET A BUCKET OF WATER AND PUT S MUCH AS YOU NEED IN THIS STUFF SMELLS GREAT AND WILL GET RID OF ANY ODOR. YOU MAY HAVE TO DO THIS FOR A FEW DAYS BUT IT WILL WORK. ANOTHER THING YOU CAN DO AFTER YOU WIPE IT DOWN WITH FABULOSO IS SPRAY IT DOWN WITH LYSOL
