How do you get rid of mildew smell in old wood furniture? Does a few days in the sun really work?

This furniture is very old and has over 90 years of being in the humidity. So I believe the mildew smell is deeply imbedded in the wood. How would you get to that!?

  1. Get rid of the furniture, buy new furniture!
  2. Be careful of drying out wood in the sun because it might split. My favorite anti-mildew compound is X-14. I spray it in my shower when the black fungus comes around. It only works after several days of drying. You might consider a murphy's soap wash down, dry, then follow up with X-14. Don't be a moron .... read all directions.
  3. just being out doors will help but then put it in a room with a dehumidifer for a couple of days to complete the prosses.a good rubbing of wood oil would be advised before any thing is done.
  4. use a oil sope and let it dry on it's own, then oil it down one more time, with just a good oil. that should help.
