Vintage Home Furniture

ViNTAGE ROOM?!?! 12 points!!?

Okay, please help me!! Here's my problem, i have been planning a great redo for my room for like 2 years, and have finally found something i like. I want a room kind of like very retro, artsy, creative. Like a mix of the early ages [20s-40s] , the middish ages [50s-80s] and from the 90s and on. I like to be orgagnized or i go crazy, so some nice organization products that go with this would be so great and would most likely get picked for best answer. I ALREADY have my cream colored rug, off-white walls, [i want to paint them , so give me ideas!] and my like 1-year old all white furniture. I have a bed that has short posts but i can unscrew them and add like a canopy thing with long posts..which one do you think will look better? I have hot pink sheets, but they were cheap so i can always get new ones. Provide ideas/LINKS!! for comforter, lamps, room accents [oh and i am framing black and white photos], etc. THANKS AND PLEASE NO RUDE COMMMENTS I ALWAYS PICK BEST ANSWER!!!!

  1. try some movie and concert posters, put them in frames and hang the in unusual places. (ceiling) also try a framed mirror to match. you can order the posters on the web. as far as paint try black, white and red. add the canopy with lots and lots of sheer fabric. change the comforter and sheets to all black or all red. use accent pillows in the 3 colors and decopage (sp?) a plain lamp shade.
  2. Hey, i just did a big makeover on my room that is super vintage (like 1910) and i totally understand the organization thing! I have a ton of organization units hidden all over my room. Visit ikea at this website: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/rooms/bedroom/ They have like 20 differnt room "inspirations" set up in a cool feature where you can look through all of the rooms and all of the featured rooms include a products list and little plus signs to pop up more information about each room. Each of their rooms has a differenct vintage feel, and i could easily see mixing together a few of those room ideas. Besides ikea, here are some ideas i used in my room. For curtains, i bought black sheets (but you could buy plain black curtains too) and i used white and gold acrylic paint on them to paint some simple sketch-style flowers (they look like rag weed or a wild flower) on the bottom 1/2 - 1/3 of the curtain. They are super artsy and make a HUGE statement in my living room. (my whole house is really vintage) For my bed side table i got some 70's side tables from my grandma (along with a rocking lime green couch) and i painted the tables black with spray paint (like $1 per bottle) then i took some plastic wal-mart / target bags and sprayed gold paint on the bags and sponged it all over the tables (heavily) then i repeated the process with the plastic bag using silver spray paint (lightly) it gives furniture an old peeling look, like the gold paint is peeling off showing the black paint. I did that same process on shelves, pencil holders (then i tied a piece of gold ribbon around the top), and picture frames. For some antique magnets you can put a little piece of magnet on the back of small round mirrors (you can find some in craft sections that are anywhere from 1/4" to 1" in diameter. And they create really cool reflections (you can use them on a black filing cabinet). I think you shoud put the posts on your bed but dont put anything on the posts...there is a similar picture on the ikea website with a yellow bed with posts. If you can paint the bed...look at the detail in the yellow one on the ikea website. Paint the bed your base color. Then get a dry paint brush, dip it in brown or black, and LIGHTLY brush it along any edges of the bed and corners to create a worn down feeling. Also, the ikea website is great for storage ideas, and painting ideas if you want to create your own art for your room. good luck!
