Antiques and collectibles?

Does anyone know what KINDS of antiques and collectibles are the most wanted right now? I am new to this and have know idea what is desired in the current market. Does not have to be high scale (oil paintings or anything like that). What kinds of antiques have a large turnover? Thanks

  1. In the inexpensive category, these are popular: tin kitchen stuff, old tools, old signs, toys, buttons and badges, military clothing and articles, magazines from 1945 through 1980, linens, lace and sewing stuff.
  2. Get yourself a copy of the 2007 Kovels antiques book. Or go to the library and check out the older versions... They are usually full of only the most collectable items. As many as there are listed in the book... There are thousands of others that don't even get mentioned. Watch movies for trends. With the whole Memoirs of a geisha thing... Japanese items especially Kimono went through the roof (which sucked for me because I have always collected Japanese artifacts and antiques.) Trends come and go... I suggest items that are timeless, that will always go up in value rather than down. Louis Icart prints Woodblock prints Aquatint Etchings Cloisonne Kutani Imari Satsuma Noritake Names like these... Some are inexpensive and some are priceless... Bronze porcelain, Glass & pottery classic literature 1st editions 1st printings. (My Bell Jar by Plath is worth thousands, and my copy of Joyce's Ulysses is priceless, the Chaucer is valuable too!) William Moorcroft Depression Glass Stuben Glass also look for things that belong to specific geographic areas that have changed or dismantled. Indochine, China,Tibet, The Czech republic... All of the items from these places among others are very valuable because they no longer exist as they once were...
  3. Original Disney antiques are very valuable.
