Would anyone else enjoy a category for Antiques/Collectibles? Most such questions are posted under Society and Culture, but I would love to see them in a category of their own. Then, "Collectibles" would have several headings, for 'sport', 'transportation, 'antiques general', 'maritime', 'military', 'glass', 'coins', etc. I could see a problem with it generating classified ads, but that happens in other categories already. Hint--hint. Y!A staff notices questions with stars..
Does anyone know anything about antiques & collectibles? My mom had given me an antique mason/canning jar a long time ago, and I was wondering if it was worth anything. It says "Good Housekeepers Regular Mason" on it and it also says "St. Louis" on the bottom of it. I know that Ball Mason jars are a dime a dosen, but I've never seen a mason jar like this before and I haven't had any luck doing internet searches.
Online Price guides for collectibles/antiques? Where can i get free price guides and information on vintage glass and kitchenware online? I've visited Kovels.com but they don't have any pictures! I've been finding vintage kitchenware for really cheap lately, but I don't know what any of it is worth.

LOTS of china cups and saucers, glassware, a collection of OLD TIN BOXES (tobacco, coffee tins) old perfume bottles, minature ceramic hinged boxes, old blank prestamped postage postcards,(1 cent 3 cent etc.) stamp collection, old milk bottles, old keys, old medicine bottles and tins, old scales, collection of old glass doorknobs, etc. etc. STUFF like that! My Husbands LATE wife collected everything! I have no interest in that, AND have no desire to keep or dust these items., and have neither the time or $ to determine whats valuable and whats not! I'm sure SOME is of it is, and some is PROBABLY just junk! BUT I don't know how to tell the difference. I've tried going on line, checking out e-bay, buying antique books, it's all too confusing! I need Someone KNOWLEDGEABLE about these things to come to my house,,sort it,document it, take it away, price it, and SELL it! W/O taking advantage of my ignorance and ripping me off. How do I sell antiques collection? I inherited a large theatrical collection dating from 1850 which the V&A museum says is of inestimable value. I found museums in the UK & USA who are interested but I don't know how to market the collection or how to converse with these types of people.Auction dealers get toffee-nosed & only want to auction the Will-Look-Good-In-Our-Auction-Brochure Oil Painting, ignoring the collection as a whole. I have already been advised not to separate the collection. There are some items there which are famous. All I have to work with in my search is the internet - but the antiques & collectibles sites only deal with Beanies or thimbles or comic books, and so on. I have not found a really serious site where really serious people look for the stuff of museum collections. Before anyone gives the answer - the library is of no help whatsoever. Has anyone got a clue?
Is the antiques and collectibles market much worse than it was 30 years ago? I'm trying to liquidate my parent's estate. They had a Victorian house filled with all kind of antiques and collectibles - Depression and pressed glass, framed artwork, period furniture, etc. I don't want to use EBAY, a lot of the items are too fragile, too large, or too heavy to ship plus the hassle of packaging and shipping. I tried to contact estate liquidators and auctioneers, but nobody is interested unless the items are Sotheby's quality, and who has that laying around? Last autumn I put some stuff out for a yard sale and hardly anyone stopped. One dealer told me I could ask market value for the stuff and keep it or let it go for 10 cents on the dollar and sell it - it would depend on what was more important to me. Now I don't know if he was being honest or trying to scare me into giving him a good deal. I know what my parents paid for that stuff 30-35 years ago, and I'm not going to give it away, but I'd like to clean out the house for possible sale. Any ideas? Thanks. Not close at all. It wouldn't be worth the trip to you, I can tell you that much. I prefer to sell locally anyway. that why I don't use EBAY.
If things are so bad you liberals, then why I am thriving on ebay selling antiques and collectibles? I am not talking about credit card sales here. I only accept cash and its equivalent forms ( i e, money orders / paypal ). People have money, you dorks! Sorry to burst your bubble, but the folks that are buying from me are from all walks of life, not just the rich! You people are so sad. You don't have any real answers, do ya? And for "sargeloda", these are not my family heirlooms. They are items I buy at yard sales and auctions, you ignoramus!
looking to sell variety of collectibles and antiques without getting cheated.? I've been collecting for years and over time I've collected a wide variety of antiques from books to ceramics even jewelery, I really need to sell some of it since some hard times have hit home. I would like to know how to find buyers that will be fair with the prices. I'm not looking to get rich but I'm also not willing to let the stuff go for pennies. I've heard mixed feelings about ebay and would rather not go threw all that. Any suggestions or interests please contact me jonikins2000@yahoo.com THANKS 4 your time

Info about antique flag collectibles from tea???? Please help!!? I just got these antique cloth flags collectibles that are about 2 inches by 1 inch at an antique auction. They said they are from 1929- 1930 and came from tea (like Wade collectables). They have different countries names and symbols of the countries (like beaver for Canada) on them. I was wondering if anyone new what tea they are from and maybe some info about them??? Thanks!! They are like ribbons!!
American and FOREIGN antiques? Are there any antique traders (not necessarily dealers) who have bought and sold antiques and collectibles cross border. Like finding an antique located in Canada (or other countries), and because of the exchange rate buy it for a good deal. And then re-sold it in the USA for a profit? Thanks
Have you ever had an antique/collectible appraiser come to your home? Have heard they can cost around $200, do a walk-through and you should have everything out to see. I don't really know where to start in picking one, except the phone book. I also know that if they offer to buy anything, they should be told to leave, and that this is unethical. I love details--Thanks!! ;-)
I need a blueprint for a victorian chair to be given to my carpentar.? I want to get a Victorian Chair made for my living room. Looking to make a couple of chairs to occupy on wall of my living room, so they need to be large. I need a blue print (ok for it not to be very detailed as long as the basic frame dimensions are there) which my carpenter can use. I am looking for a chair like this - http://images.google.co.in/imgres?imgurl=http://www.aw-antiques-collectibles.co.uk/images/furniture/victorian-chair-1.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.aw-antiques-collectibles.co.uk/&h=359&w=240&sz=23&tbnid=uMHkxgED29aF0M:&tbnh=121&tbnw=81&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dvictorian%2Bchair&start=1&sa=X&oi=images&ct=image&cd=1
do you know where to go for collectible antique pieces? I have so many pieces of all variety of things. Enough to open a small store. But my problem is that i can't take it to one place to have them appraised. So i need a web page that I can give the description and get info on their worth. Any Ideas?
What is the best resource for determining the value of antiques? I have recently inherited a wide variety of collectible and keepsake items from my grandparents. Due to space and financial necessity, (single mother of three teenagers) it is necessary to choose wisely the items to pass on and what to part with. (items such as: comic books, WWII artillary, Occupied Japan, coins, postcards, tools etc.
Is it worth it to hire an auctioneer? I have a couple thousand $ of vintage japanese kimonos/obis, as well as several antiques and collectibles. I can't have a garage sale (I live in an apartment), and ebay is so flooded with kimonos...they sell for a fraction of what they are worth. Is it worth it to deal with an auction house? What have your experiences been? Thank you.

How can I sell contents of house? I am not having any luck selling things from my house. I want to sell the house, but it has to be cleaned out first. Most of the stuff I inherited and there are some valuable antiques and collectibles. I've tried Craig's List and a locally circulated classified magazine. No luck. I've contacted estate liquidators and antique dealers in my area, but nobody is interested. I've even tried to have a few garage/estate sales, but the little I sold wasn't worth the effort of setting it up and knocking it down. The contents are too valuable to just throwout or give away. Any ideas why nobody is interested or buying anything? I asked the family and they aren't interested unless I'm giving it away. Like I said, not even auctions or estate sellers want the stuff and there's lots of nice framed art, cut & pressed glass and china. I asked the family and they aren't interested unless I'm giving it away. Some of the authentic steins are very beautiful I find it hard to beieve they would not go up in value. There is a difference between an antique stein and a collectible stein? What websites specialize in this? Thanks?
How do you "unfuse" the chrome top from an antique salt shaker? I tried to find an "antiques & collectibles" part of Y!A, but couldn't, so I thought this was the closest place where someone might have an answer. I inherited some antique crystal from my husband's family (or rather my stepdaughter did, and I am keeping for her until she has a "proper" dining room). Part of the set is a Fostoria etched crystal salt & pepper set with a chrome top. My mother in law stored them with the salt still in the shaker, and if you know anything about how corosive salt is, that's pretty much a death sentance to metal. The top of the salt shaker it "fused" to the crystal. I had this happen to my Princess House crystal salt shaker, & ended up breaking the crystal trying to get the top off. Even if I ended up breaking the chrome top, I think I could have it restored or get a reproduction of it, whereas I would have to replace the entire set if I break the crystal. Does anyone know if there is anything I can use to remove the top without damaging the glass.
