I am trying to identify an antique bowl from my Great, great grandmother? It's a large bowl, with pale shades of blues in the background, colorful wild flower pattern, raised bumps on the floral pattern, and the word "METZ in what looks like 14kt gold letters with a gold crown above the word "METZ". Because of where it came from I know it has to be from the late 1800's at least? Does anyone have any clues about this antique piece?
How to discourage cat from peeing on wood antiques? My cat has a history of peeing on my wood antiques (dresser, trunk, etc.), but when I moved, (per vet recommendation) I keep her in a closed room with no antiques & lots of litter boxes. She has been great for 6 months, but now I have an antique piano I need to move into that room & I'm terrified she will destroy it--any preventive measures I can take? (I tried lemons, cleaners, vinegar, baking soda & refinishing on the old dresser & didn't deter her at all...)

What are the ways to beat inflation other than invest in gold, stock, commodities, realestate, antiques, arts? I am from India. Here in india inflation is very high. The real inflation is about 15% per annum. If compounded almost every five years the prices of almost everything doubles. Yes, 100% total inflation every five years once. I want a good suggestion / idea to beat the inflation other than the known sources like investment in FDs stocks, bonds, commodites, realestate, antiques, arts which is generally adopted by everybody. I am looking for a novel idea or solution relally works because the above mentioned most of the items are almost( note : almost) speculative in nature. Please do not argue or discuss these above mentioned items. I am lookig for some other good idea in investment to beat the horriable inflation the real killer. Help will be of great use in this idea.
I am trying to find out if a ceramic box I have has any value?Does anyone know anything about antiques? It is an off white 3 X 5 inch box made of ceramics. There are little horizontal grooves on the lid. The lid also has 2 long necked horses painted in gold, maybe even 14 karat gold paint. Around the sides of the box are 16 gold circles using the same type of paint (they look like wheels or buttons about the size of a quarter) Inside the box is painted tan. On the bottom of the box is written Italy 3006. What does this mean? I have tried to research, but have been unable to find anything. It looks like this may be a great collectable, and possibly be worth finding out more about it. Help! Are there any appraisers out there that can take an estimated guess of its worth?
Internet appraisal for antiques? I have an old horse lighter that was my great grandfathers, which I think is cooper. It has a maker’s stamp of a camel on the belly. Your great grandmother left behind a trunk in the attic and your grieving grandma gives it to you...? ...to clean it out and keep for yourself to remember your deceased great-great grandmother. You pick the lock of the worn out trunk and scratch the leather in anticipation to open it. This is like a secret treasure chest intended only for you to know what is inside. Finally the lock breaks loose. You raise the top up, and it creaks to add suspense. To your surprise, you glare in horror into the antique trunk and scream at your finding of a...?

What happens if my jewellery is recovered? I recently had my apartment robbed and all my jewellery taken (mostly sentimental). I want to put this whole thing behind me and just file the insurance papers, but I still have hope that my engagement ring (an antique from my great grandma) and other things will be found. What does "H.L. Registered Design" mean on the inside of my antique cabinet? We recently purchased an antique corner cabinet/armoire at an antique auction. It's an oak finish with engraving along the sides and top. On the inside, above the mirror, it has "H.L. Registered Design" on a small engraved plate. We searched around google to figure out what that meant for the value of our new piece, which is in excellent condition. Any details would be great from you antique experts!

How do I get mold off my wood furniture? I just found a great pair of antique kitchen chairs in storage. They are wood, with a light finish, and will be really nice once I clean them up a bit. They do NOT need to be refinished. PROBLEM: one of the chairs has some mold on it. It's not bad, just a few patches on the legs. But I don't know how to get it off! I'm afraid to use bleach, which might damage the original, old finish. Vinegar, maybe? Will that do anything? Thanks in advance for your help!

great joke..please read it all..FUNNY!!!!!? A Husband takes his wife to play her first game of golf.....Of course, the wife promptly whacked her first shot right through the window of the biggest house adjacent to the course. The husband cringed, 'I warned you to be careful! Now we'll have to go up there, find the owner, apologize and see how much your lousy drive is going to cost us.' So the couple walked up to the house and knocked on the door. A warm voice said, 'Come on in.' When they opened the door they saw the damage that was done: glass was all over the place, and a broken antique bottle was lying on its side near the broken window. A man reclining on the couch asked, 'Are you the people that broke my window?' 'Uh...yeah, sir. We're sure sorry about that,' the husband replied. 'Oh, no apology is necessary. Actually I want to thank you... You see, I'm a genie , and I've been trapped in that bottle for a thousand years. Now that you've released me, I'm allowed to grant three wishes. I'll give you each one wish, but if you don't mind, I'll keep the last one for myself.' 'Wow, that's great!' the husband said. He pondered a moment and blurted out, 'I'd like a million dollars a year for the rest of my life.' 'No problem,' said the genie. 'You've got it, it's the least I can do. And I'll guarantee you a long, healthy life!' 'And now you, young lady, what do you want?' the genie asked. 'I'd like to own a gorgeous home complete with servants in every country in the world,' she said. 'Consider it done,' the genie said. 'And your homes will always be safe from fire, burglary and natural disasters!' 'And now,' the couple asked in unison, what's your wish, genie?' 'Well, since I've been trapped in that bottle and haven't been with a woman in more than a thousand years, my wish is to have sex with your wife.' The husband looked at his wife and said, 'Gee, honey, you know we both now have a fortune, and all those houses. What do you think?' She mulled it over for a few moments and said, 'You know, you're right. Considering our good fortune, I guess I wouldn't mind, but what about you, honey?' 'You know I love you sweetheart,' said the husband. I'd do the same for you!' So the genie and the woman went upstairs where they spent the rest of the afternoon enjoying each other in every way. After about three hours of non-stop sex, the genie rolled over and looked directly into her eyes and asked, How old are you and your husband?' 'Why, we're both 35,' she responded breathlessly. 'NO SHIT.' He said, 'Thirty-five years old and both of you still believe in genies?'

Professional furniture restorers, please.? We have just acquired this really great antique library table. It is structurally very sound. The ony problem is with the table top. The veneer is missing in several places and the veneer that is still there is stained with coffee cup rings, etc. Peeling off the remaining veneer does not appear to be a good option because the wood underneath does not seem to be too high a quality. I really need a professional opinion on what I should do to fix these issues. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks
Can anyone tell me some great but reasonably priced furniture stores in Mumbai (preferably in the suburbs)? I am interested in buying 2 things: sofa-come-bed and dining table. My budget is Rs.20,000 max. for sofa-come-bed and Rs.25,000 max. for dining table. The designs should be stylish and contemporary. Antique stuff is a strict no-no. I checked out the Concept store in santacruz but the prizes were going above my budget. What about other similar 'branded' stores like Durian, Style Spa, Tangent etc. Are the prices of their stuff similar to Concepts? If yes then any local furniture stores u know based on ur experience or some store that u have heard is good will also do. Please provide some valuable info!! P.S.- Any idea how is the store Better Home opp. Andheri station(E). I have checked out its stuff which is quite nice but i have heard that their service is not bad.
