antiques????? my sister and i are interested in collecting and selling antiques... is there anything we should know? what sorts of things would sell well at auctions ie what is collectible? to begin with we are probably not looking at spending over $100 AU on items until we learn more about it. any ideas/suggestions/tips would be greatly appreciated! thanks

Antiques..?? my mom is a huge fan of antiques so all of our furniture are antiques and we have 2 really rare pieces, one of them is an indonesian church door that was made into a cabinet and we bought it from tequila kola and they told us that there is only a few in the world the other piece is a camel cart from India and its really rare. Anyways my mom wanted to get new furniture since were moving and she wants a new style to the house, and she wants me to sell the 2 rare piece on ebay. how to tell if antiques are genuine or fake? So, I'm an avid antique collector. I tend to just buy from antique stores and whatnot, however, I occasionally shop online, but I'm very cautious since it's easy to be scammed online. I was searching on ebay, and I found this piece for sale that is simply irresistible; but, I'm paranoid about buying it. It's a little over 300 years old, and I find it hard to believe that something of that age is being sold for $35. I read the seller's feedback, and all of it was positive, save for three neutrals; and they were only neutral because of late shipment on the seller's part. All the rest was very positive. Is there any way I can tell if this truly is an antique, or just a fake, save from buying it and having an expert examine it?

Can anyone help me identify these antiques? I have 2 saucers and 2 tea cups that have 'Fine Porcelain' and a 'TG' and Japan stamped on the bottom of the tea cup. Then I have a real small tea cup and saucer with the number 890 etched on the bottom of the tea cup. The tea cup looks like gold plating on the inside. It is the color white and green with painted gold dots and a golden outline of a leaf. Can anyone help me identify these, and are they worth any money?

Is the antiques and collectibles market much worse than it was 30 years ago? I'm trying to liquidate my parent's estate. They had a Victorian house filled with all kind of antiques and collectibles - Depression and pressed glass, framed artwork, period furniture, etc. I don't want to use EBAY, a lot of the items are too fragile, too large, or too heavy to ship plus the hassle of packaging and shipping. I tried to contact estate liquidators and auctioneers, but nobody is interested unless the items are Sotheby's quality, and who has that laying around? Last autumn I put some stuff out for a yard sale and hardly anyone stopped. One dealer told me I could ask market value for the stuff and keep it or let it go for 10 cents on the dollar and sell it - it would depend on what was more important to me. Now I don't know if he was being honest or trying to scare me into giving him a good deal. I know what my parents paid for that stuff 30-35 years ago, and I'm not going to give it away, but I'd like to clean out the house for possible sale. Any ideas? Thanks. Not close at all. Antiques Road Show? Has anyone been to the Antiques Road Show? I am going to the San Antonio show in July. Any helpful tips/advice? I was asked how to get on the roadshow. I looked up the Antiques Roadshow on their website...through pbs. They don't sell tickets to a specific event. They give them out first come first serve. You pick a location and apply to receive tickets. Then you wait. I was fortunate to be informed that I got 2 tickets. If you sign up in advance, I'm sure you won't have trouble getting tickets.
